Veronica’s
Sightline Story

I am totally blind in my left eye with not much sight remaining in my right eye. I also have several other health conditions which means I do tend to spend most of my time at home.

I don’t see any of my family so can get quite lonely and feel quite shut off from things. That being said, I do love people and very much like to think of myself as a “glass half full” kind of person. I have one close friend who comes to help me with anything I need doing at home. She’s such a love and I’d be lost without her. I also really appreciate Sightline’s telephone befriending service because I can speak with someone who can understand my feelings linked with my sight loss.

I speak to Rachel every week. We have a good old chat about anything and everything. She is a good cook so tells me all about the different recipes she tries; my mouth waters and I am so hungry when we’re chatting away!

I tell her about my hobbies too; I like crafts and love to knit, cross-stitch and crochet. We also talk about my past holidays; my husband served as a Sergeant in the army and I was a freelance nurse in the military hospitals. I’ve travelled to quite a few places, two of my favourites being Hong Kong and Singapore. I’d love to visit America; maybe one day I’ll get there.

I really feel like I have something worthwhile in my life with the calls Sightline provides.

In the 12 months I have been using the service I feel Rachel is now a wonderful friend of mine. I would feel lonelier if I didn’t have the befriending calls.

We usually chat for about an hour each week and no matter how I’m feeling at the start of the call, Rachel always makes me feel uplifted by the end.

Please get in touch if you or someone you know might benefit from a weekly telephone befriending call. These calls can often alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation.
