Linda’s
Sightline Story
The RNIB made me aware of the Sightline service. I have been having a weekly call with Dominic for almost a year now and honestly, it’s one of the best things in my life.
I don’t know if it’s because we’re both northerners, but we just hit it off straight away and we can easily chat for a couple of hours each week. We are both sight impaired, mine due to a stroke a couple of years ago and Dom, my befriender, has been blind since birth.
We both have partners and get out and about so love to exchange stories of what we’ve been up to from one week to the next. Last week’s call was all about holidays, super cars and rock concerts!

“The thing I really like about our calls is the fact it is a two-way street.”

I know I am the one who wanted the service, but I know Dom enjoys our conversations just as much as I do. He will share stories of his life living with no vision and it makes me feel good knowing I’m not on my own.
Whether it’s the day-to-day routines or more complex conversations Dom is honestly so easy to talk to. He’ll know when to just listen and let me rant, or chip in to offer an anecdote or advice depending on what he feels I need in the moment!
It feels like we’ve known each other forever and I hope we can continue our calls for many more years to come. I class him as one of my closest friends even though we have never met and never will.
I’d recommend anyone who is unsure where to turn if they are sight impaired, to reach out to Sightline. The friendship and laughs you could experience really can help you feel less lonely.
