Sightline is very pleased to welcome Carl Hodge as he joins the charity as Chief Executive.
“My name is Carl Hodge, and I have the pleasure of taking over the reins of Sightline from Ian Edwards as the new Chief Executive from 1 August. Over recent years, Ian has made great progress in developing the charity and I wish him well with his retirement.
I’ll be working with mainly Andrea and Becky, alongside a supportive Board of Trustees, and together we hope to continue to support the service users and volunteers who are the bedrock of our service.
To briefly explain my background, I was an aircraft engineer in the Royal Air Force for 20 years before I decided that I needed a new challenge. That led me to the sight loss charity, Sight Advice South Lakes in Kendal, where I became their Chief Executive for nearly 7 years. After that I joined the larger charity Vision Support Barrow & District in Barrow-in-Furness, again as their Chief Executive for 10 years before going freelance to help other charities in the area. Throughout that time, I have worked alongside Galloways and have always had a good working relationship with them.”
Carl adds “I have a partner, Francesa, who is visually impaired and in my spare time I enjoy rock climbing, cycling, running and photography.

Beginning my new role is exciting for me, as I already know about the wonderful service that is provided by the Sightline, and I would like to contribute to its success.”
